This morning I stepped on the scale and saw 210 pounds. That’s about 40 pounds lighter than I was a year ago.
People often ask what I changed. Honestly, not much. I didn’t adopt some radical diet or discover a miracle workout. What changed was my environment. Maui has me walking more, eating better, sleeping better, and carrying a lot less stress.
It reminded me how often we overestimate willpower while underestimating the influence of our environment. We spend enormous energy trying to change ourselves while overlooking the conditions that shape our decisions every day.
Sometimes the most effective way to change your behavior isn’t to change yourself. It’s to change your surroundings.
