I’ve been noticing something with a lot of leaders this week. Nothing is necessarily broken, but things are taking far more effort than expected. Work that looked manageable is pulling more time, more attention, and more energy than anyone planned for going in.
That gap is where the stress starts to build. Most of the time, the instinct is to push harder or try to “fix” something. But in many cases, the issue isn’t the work itself—it’s the expectation that it should be behaving differently.
One small shift that helps:
Instead of asking how long something should take, step back and ask what it’s actually requiring.
That doesn’t make the work easier, but it does make it more manageable.
